zebra
i made a zebra... it started mainly with the lace and the giraffe print fabric, strips and just sewing them together. which became the neck and then thinking about how much is needed and how much i can exclude, how much is provided by the wearer, how much should be hidden. because masks are in this case a combination of the wearer and the fabric, empty masks mean little...

please note, this picture makes me feel really silly.

pics from show at harsha's apt.
this is where the little horse was burnt
here is a picture of its ashes
to the right is the door leading to the outside world, to the left is a door leading to a bathroom. in the middle is a suitcase of animals!
here is a wall of photos of people and animals in various levels of interaction/ identity bending
through this door you can get to the kitchen, with some refreshments- pumpkin pie, peanut brittle, tea, cocoa
here is a detail of a drawing
another detail
full thing... in lower left hand corner is a t.v. where the video 'congloactiv' played
another detail of drawing...
these are photocopies from books about artists i like and am inspired by: just chose three, annette messager, rebecca horn, rirkrit tiravanijathe show was open for one night only, more like an event, we watched the video many times, and burned the horse... more to come on that...

it's been a month since i updated last...
i drew this:
and sarah came over and we spray painted noodles:

which innovation led to more possibilities for the drawing:
i'm working on a zebra mask. here is where it's at now:
i'm thinking rachel glass will wear it. her hair will work well, i think... i'm super excited...

and on
this has been a busy week.
white people music called me up and asked to use the masks...

I've also been working on video- here is an unaltered still- i'm really enjoying sort of collaging video together...
I put out an ad, via grinnellplans, for playdates... the idea is, if anyone is interested they can stop by and... do whatever. i suggested, "play with animals make animals tell stories talk"

I finished a cocoon. It freaks me out.

i fit inside of it, took some video of that. creeepy looking, though when i am inside, it is warm and safe.
